Glossary of Terms
|
Analogue Addressable Fire System |
- |
A system in which signals from each detector and/or call point are identified on the control panel with a text message. |
|
Beam Detector |
- |
This consists of an infra red light transmitter and receiver which work over distances of 10m - 100m and are therefore ideal for protecting buildings with large open areas. |
|
Break Glass Call Point |
- |
A switching device provided so that an alarm can be raised manually. |
|
Conventional Fire System |
- |
A system in which signals from each circuit are identified at the panel as a 'zone', multiple circuits are available. |
|
Duct Probe Unit |
- |
Designed to detect the presence of smoke within a ventilation unit. Can be used in conjunction with either an optical or ionisation smoke detector. |
|
End Of Line Monitoring (EOLM) |
- |
Units which detect the removal of a detector but enables call points wired after that point to remain operational. |
|
Fire Alarm Control Panel |
- |
Apparatus containing power supply, detection circuitry, and visual indicators. |
|
Heat Detector |
- |
An automatic detector which signals an alarm at a fixed temperature or a specific rate of rise in temperature, or a combination of both. |
|
Ionisation Smoke Detector |
- |
An automatic detector which responds to a presence of hot smoke in the chamber which triggers an ionisation monitoring current. |
|
Loop Powered Sounder |
- |
Audible device which derives its power from the detection loop. Only available on analogue addressable fire systems. |
|
Mimic Diagram |
- |
A topographic representation of the protected premises. |
|
Monitored Wiring |
- |
An open circuit or a short circuit failure will result in a fault warning. |
|
Optical Smoke Detector |
- |
An automatic detector which responds to the scattering of a light by smoke in the chamber. |
|
Remote Alarm Indicator |
- |
Gives a visual indication of a fire condition to someone in a different location. Usually consists of one LED. |
|
Sounder |
- |
A device which gives an audible warning of fire. |
|
Xenon Beacon |
- |
A device which gives a visible warning of fire. |
|
Zone |
- |
A subdivision of the protected premises which is indicated separately from other subdivisions on the fire detection system. |
